VDA Artist Profile #133
Growing up in Southwest Michigan, a short train ride from Chicago, Caitlin was privileged to perform in works set by members of Hubbard Street and Giordano Dance, as well as Autumn Eckman and Stephanie Martinez early on in her training.
In 2018 she earned a dual BFA in Dance and BA in English from Ohio University, where she performed and collaborated on choreographies by Abraham in Motion (Kyle Abraham), Ani Javian, David Dorfman, Jasmine Hearn + Kendra Portier, The National Dance Company of Ghana, and Joanna Kotze (amongst others). Moving to NYC shortly after graduation, she performed as an independent artist and collaborator alongside Benjamin Roach at Mark Morris Dance Center, The Actor’s Fund Arts Center, Teatro LATEA, and Threes Brewing.
Being a full-time writer, her study of dance investigates how to communicate commonalities of the human experience that challenge the written/verbal language and other identity-based modes of exchange. How do words support/detract from meaning? How can bodies do the same?
As a recent Vermont transplant, inspired by the scenery and community, she is hungry to share new creative spaces with fellow movers, offering a diverse background of contemporary, jazz, hip-hop, and improvisational/somatic study as equal teacher (all ages), practitioner, and choreographer.
