Dunham Technique - A Way of Life

In this 3 session workshop series, we will unpack the philosophies and theories that are the foundation of the Dunham Technique. This technique, created by dance pioneer Katherine Dunham, is unique among dance techniques for many reasons, one of them being this integration of philosophies and anthropological theories. The physical aspect of the technique is vibrant, exciting and powerful, however, the philosophies and theories are central to a deep understanding of the technique. This is why Katherine Dunham called her technique "a way of life."Each day we will split our time between talking, journaling and dancing. We will come to understand the philosophies and theories on both the concrete and the abstract level, so that they can be applied to not only dance but every aspect of life.
