A brand new resident of Vermont, Nikaio Tomashow (they/them/theirs) is a Filipinx-American dancer and choreographer. Coming from a family of break dancers and movers, Nikaio started dancing at a very young age and is highly skilled in contemporary, street styles, improvisation, and ballet.
In this class, Nikaio begins with a Contemporary take on a barre warm up and then finishes with floorwork. This class is appropriate for intermediate level Contemporary dancers.
Limited to 10 dancers. Masks are required.
Nikaio began their ballet training at the Lake Placid School of Dance and continued with the French Academie of Ballet in New York City. During their last two years of high school, they apprenticed with Rebecca Kelly Ballet and worked on their administrative staff. Nikaio went on to graduate from Oberlin College of Arts and Sciences in 2018 with a BA in Dance and a focus in performance of identity. There, they explored the bounds of how bodies are affected by a person’s history and how this can influence the quality and production of movement. While at Oberlin, Nikaio danced with and directed Koreo Crew and Kinetic Dance Crew, and was a member of AndWhat!?. Post-graduation, they spent a year in Indonesia teaching English at Universitas Gadjah Mada, as part of the Oberlin Shansi Fellowship program, and dancing with Freakingz Crew.
