Immediately following Traces, we will move into the evening with a LAUNCH party for the Vermont Dance Alliance presented at Skinny Pancake and featuring Halyard Brewing!

Meet new artists, see dance films by local Vermont choreographers, enjoy delicious food from Skinny Pancake and drinks by Halyard Brewing, then dance the night away to groovy funk band STIG, all in support of launchingVermont Dance Alliance forward into a successful future!

Participating artists

Choreographer and dancer Hanna Satterlee grew up in East Montpelier, Vermont and has spent many years traveling through dance, both nationally and internationally. Hanna holds a Masters in Fine Arts/Interdisciplinary Arts from Goddard College (VT/WA) and has produced her own choreographic and dance installation work, and has performed with professional companies in Vienna Austria, Stolzenhagen Germany, Baltimore, Manhattan, Brooklyn, San Francisco and throughout the state of Vermont. Now based in Burlington Vermont, Hanna is the current director of the Vermont Dance Alliance, with a strong belief that the culture of dance will continue to flourish and expand throughout the edges of our beautiful state. Jessie Owens is the founder of Ergo Movement, a collaborative performance project based in Burlington, Vermont. She holds a BA in Dance from Smith College, where she attended as an Ada Comstock, or non-traditional scholar. She is the current Vice President of the Vermont Dance Alliance, where she is working to support dance in all of its forms.

Laurel Jenkins’ choreography emerges from rigorous experimentation and interdisciplinary dialogues in the realms of contemporary dance, opera, music and theater. She engages with the choreographic process as a radical space for reimagining our collective human experience. Her work has been presented by Lincoln Center, Disney Hall, REDCAT, Automata, the Getty Center, Show Box LA, Danspace, Berlin’s Performing Presence Festival, and Tokyo’s Sezane Gallery. She recently choreographed Bernstein’s MASS with the LA Phil and the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra. In addition, she has choreographed for LA Contemporary Dance Company, The Wooden Floor, California State University, Long Beach, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Jenkins was a member of the Trisha Brown Dance Company from 2007-2012, and developed original roles in Brown’s final works. Jenkins also danced in New York with Vicky Shick and Sara Rudner. She performed the role of Ismene in Peter Sellars’ staging of Oedipus Rex conducted by Esa-Pekka Salonen. This spring she will perform solos by Merce Cunningham in Los Angeles as a part of the Night of 100 Solos: A Centennial Event. Jenkins is the recipient of a Vermont Arts Council Grant, an Asian Cultural Council Grant, holds a BA from Sarah Lawrence, and an MFA from UCLA....

Marissa began dancing at a young age, and has been an active lover of movement and artistry in many forms throughout her life. After a several year hiatus, she is entering back into the dance world eager to dance, create, connect and perform. Currently on the board of The Vermont Dance Alliance, she is passionate about collaboration and helping to connect community and resources. She received a BA in Cultural Anthropology from the University of New Hampshire and a minor in Dance. She has since pursued Natural Health and Wellness practices and education. Her love of movement has fused with a strong energetic awareness and intuition, as well as deep appreciation for sciences. This has led her to explore a career as a Movement Educator and Energy Worker. She is the owner of "Align," in Burlington Vermont. She is beyond grateful to be dancing and connecting with the local dance community, returning "home" to dance. In her free time, she explores the natural world through outdoor adventures, and has a special affinity for climbing/dancing on rocks.
