SURFACE TENSION is an outdoor dance happening featuring works choreographed by Lucia Gagliardone in collaboration with dancers Lydia Roe, Emma Dewey, Lucy Sydel, and Brigid Armbrust. SURFACE TENSION presents two original works, Arboreal Duet and Like Water, which each wrestle with narratives of the self and community, space and distance, and healing through the experience of witnessing the self. These dance pieces are deeply connected to the natural spaces and water bodies we inhabit. 25% of the proceeds will go to the Susu Healing Collective's BIPOC Land Sovereignty Fund. This is a socially distanced dance event; masks are required for audience members.

To allow for an intimate audience size, SURFACE TENSION will have performances on August 28th and 29th at 3:30 and 6 pm.

Lucia Gagliardone is a choreographer and dance artist from Sharon, VT with a BA in Dance and Sociology from Bowdoin College. She has debuted five original dance works: "All My Bodies (I + II)", "she cherishes this, too", "Like Water", and "Arboreal Duet", as well as the full-length dance film "Like Water". Lucia has performed in works by Katy Pyle, Aretha Aoki, Vanessa Anspaugh, Gwyneth Jones, and Carol Langstaff, at Bowdoin College, the Northampton School for Contemporary Dance and Thought, Moving Target as part of Portland Dance Month, and as a principal dancer in Flock Dance Troupe. In her work, she deals with themes of autonomy, healing and community, disintegration and wholeness, and various iterations of the self. She explores stories told through the language of movement, and sees dance as inherently saturated with meaning and history due to the presence of the body, and her work is grounded in modern dance, authentic movement, and improvisation.
