Open Call for Dance: Traces 2019

Vermont Dance Alliance is planning our 3rd annual Traces event, a day of free outdoor dance in downtown Burlington on Saturday, June 15, 2019!

We invite YOU to submit your proposals for dance of any and all styles and genres by May 1st. This is a great opportunity to showcase new work, dip your toes into site-specific dance, or to showcase the style of dance you practice or teach.

Your performances of 10 minutes or less, will happen outside all over downtown Burlington, from the Waterfront, to the Church Street Marketplace, between 11am and 5pm. All performances will take place outdoors and will be free to the public.

Performances can take place at these areas any time between 11am and 5pm: Waterfront, Battery Park, Church Street, the green in front of the Fletcher Free Library

Performances can take place in City Hall Park between 3pm and 5pm. If you are creating a solo work, City Hall Park can be used between 11am and 5pm.

There are many other places around downtown Burlington where you can perform your work. If you will be performing in front of a business, you must obtain permission directly from them in writing and submit it to VDA along with your proposal. If you need assistance choosing a site, please let us know so we can help. We have lots of ideas!

Please submit your proposal to by May 1st and include the following:

-Choreographer or group name and short bio
-Any website or social media accounts if applicable
-Photo for Publicity (photographer credit should be in the file name)
-Title, genre, and description of your performance piece
-Statement of meaning/purpose behind the project
-Names of performers and personnel (there must be one non-performer present who can speak to audience and public to let them know where to sit/stand/be, and to help keep performers safe)
-Length of piece
-Preferred time of performance
-Preferred site of performance
-Permission from surrounding business, if applicable
-If you are not a VDA member, please pay the sliding scale application fee of $10-15 by submitting a donation on the donate website tab. Include in your application the date of your donation. If this is a financial hardship for you, please contact us.

Please note: we will be creating a schedule for the day to try to minimize overlapping performances. Flexibility with performance sites and times is extremely helpful and appreciated. Proposals submitted by May 1 will be included in the Traces map and performance listings.
