Hween ‘19: THRILLER hits Montpelier

This Halloween a team of zombified Montpelier dancers will descend upon Langdon Street with the original choreography from the iconic 1983 music video. Come watch/get involved (we welcome fellow zombies to assist in creeping out the public with their own improvisations while we perform. Calling all werewolves too!).

Find us oozing out of Down Home restaurant and into the parking lot next to Onion River Sports every 15-30min between 4:30p and 6p.

Bio: A Vermont native with a B.A. in Dance and Humanities from Bennington College, Emma Manion exercises a lifelong fascination with the human body’s composition, capabilities, means of creative expression, and direct link to quality of life. Her work as a Dance Instructor, Personal Trainer, and Choreographer illustrates her passion for moving with mechanical thoughtfulness, questions and intentions. Emma has collaborated with a number of fellow artists and companies including San Francisco-based Rhythm and Motion, Modern On Command, Carolé Acuña Dance Theater, and traveled as a backup dancer for musicians Kerli and Pasquale Esponito. In her solo craftwork, Emma blends technical training with playful intuitiveness to explore selected inquiries more than creating declaration-based work. Her dances often involve theatrics, are always set, but elements of improv have been (bravely!) showing up lately.. As a VDA member: “I moved back to VT in March '17 after a decade of jumping around in CA. Currently splitting my time between my native Montpelier and the Calais woods, I'm teaching Dance (Sundays, 11a, at CDFS and Wednesdays, 4:30p at Zenith!) and Fitness (group and PT workouts at Studio Zenith!). Aiming to discover/cultivate a full & forward moving dance career, community, and place of inspiring exploration back in my old stomping grounds. I'm excited for VDA to be a part of my new work and play chapter, to meet and collaborate with all walks of artists and dancers alike. Always craving continued education, inspiration from, and ways to support other creatives and movement pros.”

Participating artists

I grew up in Upstate NY, and danced. I spent my undergrad at SUNY Geneseo, and danced. I moved to NYC, and danced and danced. And now I’m here, and I’ll dance some more.

I am a movement enthusiast. I have studied Afro Brazilian, Afro Cuban, Samba, Capoeira, House, Modern and Butoh. I am currently teaching at Contemporary Dance and Fitness and Studio Zenith in Montpelier. I hope to find dancers and choreographers to work with and create more opportunities for performance. I also enjoy comedy and aspects of theater. I enjoy somatic practices and authentic movement. I am also a personal trainer, energy worker, mother and doula.
