Call for VDA member: Paid Commisssion for a new choreography August 2020
Vt Suffrage Centennial Alliance (VSCA) is seeking to commission a choreographer for a new work, to be performed on the State House Lawn on August 22nd, 2020 during the Vt Women's Suffrage Centennial Festival in Montpelier Vermont.
Vt Women's Suffrage Centennial Parade & Festival will be commemorating and celebrating 100 years of women voting in the United States. The Festival will be an inspiring call to action that will include a parade that depicts the long struggle for the 19th Amendment/women's suffrage, a keynote speaker, Barbershop Quartet performance, a comedian and hopefully a new dance performance by YOU!
We wish for this performance to highlight the struggle and the fight for women's votes, and the incomplete legacy that included racism that led to voter suppression. The final scene of the dance would depict ALL citizens reveling in their right to vote.
If selected, VSCA will provide a generous stipend for this performance, to help cover the costs of artist fees, rehearsal space, costumes and music.
At the performance, VSCA can provide sound equipment and a stage. There will be a technical rehearsal to be scheduled for August 2020 prior to the performance.
Considering this will be a big commitment and project, if the artist can organize a second performance/production of this dance at a separate time and in other venue/location, VSCA will consider how we can support that performance.
We are open to your interpretation, and would need the following materials sent to email@example.com by March 1st, 2020:
Name as it appears on your VDA member profile
Music Information (live or recorded? Sound system is available)
Short Description of the proposed work
Video sample of past work
Personal Website, if available
Description of ideas for second performance of the work, if available/interested
