2019 Vermont Dance Alliance Symposium

We are excited to hold the 2019 Vermont Dance Alliance Symposium on January 13th, 2019 to start the year in creative collaboration.

10:30-11 Arrival & Welcome! Amy E. Tarrant Gallery at the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. Main Street, Burlington Vermont.

11-12 Workshop #1- Adaptive Strategies: Movement Translation with Toby Macnutt.
When working with dancers, a teacher, or a choreographer whose body or experience is very different from your own, you find yourself in the position of movement translator. Interpreting movement for or from other people is its own skill set. In this workshop we'll walk through the steps and practice thinking outside the box to make sure the translated movement is practical, effective, and aesthetically sound. Please wear comfortable movement clothes.

12-1 Workshop #2- Embodying Wild with Pauline Jennings
In this workshop we will explore what it means to experience and be nourished by wild, why it's important to cultivate these experiences and how to create opportunities for wild in our artistic practices. During the workshop, participants will engage in dialogue, quiet embodiment exercises and journaling. No previous experience necessary. Please bring a journal or paper, and pen or pencil.

The farm families that own Cabot Creamery Co-operative love what they do. And they’ve been doing it for a long time—every single day since 1919. Almost 100 years later, we’re proud of our thriving farms, strong communities, and happy, healthy cows that produce the rich, buttery milk that we use to make Cabot’s award-winning cheese and dairy products. We like to think those awards mean we’re doing something right. Of course, you’re a big part of this too. If you love eating our cheese as much as we love making it, then we’ll get to keep doing what we do for generations to come. We’re in this together—and we’re grateful for your support.

The Flynn Center is a full-service home for the performing arts in the region; offers a wide range of cultural and educational experiences; and nurtures the creative development of performing artists.
