Please join Open Door’s Dance Faculty in our Spring Improvisational Sampler!
Each week a different teacher will offer their approach to movement improvisation.
Please note the schedule and descriptions below.
Classes are open to all. Some movement experience is helpful.
4/10 - Improvisation with Rachel Bernsen
In this class we’ll investigate improvisation as an individual and collective endeavor, exploring internal and external states of heightened awareness. We’ll start with a guided improvisation and move into exploring structures and scores to frame spontaneous action.
4/17 - The Art of the Solo with Kate Gamble
Through improvisational scores and prompts, we will develop solo studies. Participants will have an opportunity to perform and give feedback to one another
4/24 - Playful Improv with Lydia Roe
In this class we will dance freely and joyously, using imagery and musicality to investigate new ways of moving through space. We will work up a sweat with a Gaga-inspired warm-up, develop some individual and collective movement material through guided prompts, and then play around with that material in real time, responding to each other and dancing in connection despite our distance!
5/1 - Connection and Expression with Neva Cockrell
What a wonder to have a body that moves and expresses! Let’s gather for a practice that connects us first to our own bodily sensations and movement desires, and then broadens out to individual and group creative expression. This practice has guided my own body towards health and balance, helped me find my unique creative voice, and connected me with other artists -- looking forward to sharing it with you.
