The Open Door Movement Lab offers a wide range of movement classes and workshops that explore the many faces of dance and movement and emphasize a healing and nourishing practice for the body. Our offerings include modern and contemporary technique, improvisation and composition, somatics and authentic movement, and Alexander Technique. We cultivate immersive, site-specific dance performances using collaborative choreographic methods with our diverse community of dancers. The Movement Lab works in coordination and partnership with our wellness clinic and outreach programs. Meet our core team of movement practitioners:
 
Kate Gamble, Founder
Open Door Founder, Kate Gamble, is a physical therapist, dancer, choreographer, and teacher who is engaged in the exploration of the many faces of movement. She has a BFA from New York University/Tisch School of the Arts and an MS in Physical Therapy from the Mayo School of Health Related Sciences.  Her combined training as a modern dancer and physical therapist allows her to facilitate movement experiences that are safe and transformative.

Kelly Armbrust, Director of Dance Programming
Kelly holds a BA in Dance and an MA in Dance/Movement Therapy. She danced with Anonymity in Charleston, SC and Still Moving Ensemble in Boulder, CO and has taught modern dance in a variety of settings including as an artist-in-residence in public schools. She believes that dance can connect us more deeply to ourselves and our world, and strives to awaken a growing curiosity and authenticity in her students, leading to greater depth and dimensionality in the dance.

Neva Cockrell, Contemporary and Catalyst Teacher
Neva is a professional dancer/choreographer, yoga and barre instructor, and avid fitness connoisseur. She has been performing and teaching fitness internationally and across the US and for the past 10 years. She taught ballet barre fitness as a Senior Instructor and Teacher Trainer with Physique 57 in NYC, and launched Physique’s first international studio in Dubai. Neva has been dancing with Pilobolus for the past 4 years, including international tours to 6 countries and serving as Dance Captain for the past 2 years. She is yoga certified through Simple Yoga with Eric Stewart, and has played sports her entire life.

Anne Shivas, Somatic Therapist, MA, MFA, M.AmSAT
Anne is a senior teacher of the Alexander Technique. She  trained with Shmuel Nelken in Jerusalem, Israel in the early 1990’s where she lived for eleven years. Her interest in the philosophy of mind and body found an experiential correlate in the understanding of psychophysical unity of the technique. She has also explored Analytical Psychology and her approach to personal change is richly informed by the work of C.G. Jung. She served on the American Society for the Alexander Technique Board for four years and is currently Co-Chair of the AmSAT Continuing Education Committee. She has a private practice in Norwich, VT.
